Harish to inaugurate ‘Manohara Ameenpur’ Tree Plantation Program

T. Harish Rao, Minister for Irrigation, will inaugurate the “Manohara Ameenpur” Tree Plantation programme at 9 am on September 6 at Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu.

The Ameenpur Lake system is located on the outskirts of Hyderabad in Patancheru Mandal, Medak District. The Ameenpur lake is abutting the TSPF Training Academy.

The Ameenpur Lake system consists of 13 lakes in Ameenpur. They are Bandamkommu, Kummari Kunta, Malla Kunta, Gandi Kunta, Pochamma Kunta, Koneru Kunta, Upparaveni Kunta, Shambuni Kunta, Nimba Cheruvu, Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu, Ameenpur Chinna Cheruvu, Shetti Kunta/Dubba Kunta, Usakabavi and two feeder lakes Makta Meedi Kunta and Makta Kindi Kunta located in Serilingampally Mandal of Ranga Reddy District.

All the listed water-bodies are man-made and chain linked to each other. The primary purpose of these water bodies are irrigation and drinking. Due to urbanization there is no Irrigation and water is polluted with domestic sewage, making it unfit for drinking. The Bio-Diversity has also been damaged due to encroachments and exploitation.

Bird Watchers Paradise: The Ameenpur lakes are among the few water bodies left in the State of Telangana and it is known as Birding Paradise of Telangana where more than 171 species of both resident and migrants like frequent the lake which has wide variety of fishes, amphibians and reptiles.

The Telangana State Biodiversity Board is taking all necessary steps for declaring it as a Biological Heritage Site. (NSS)
