Zoya open to directing limited series for Television

Mumbai: Having impressed the audience with her movies, Indian filmmaker Zoya Akhtar is also open to directing a limited series for television.

The “Dil Dhadakne Do” helmer said while she is open to doing a TV show, she is currently busy scripting two web series with filmmaker Reema Kagti.

When asked if she would be open to doing a limited series for the small screen, Zoya told PTI, “Yes, absolutely. Now also there is a digital platform. Times are changing.”

“I would absolutely love to do a limited TV series. But right now Reema Kagti and I are developing two web series.

So, let’s see where that goes,” she said.

The 43-year-old filmmaker made her directorial debut with “Luck By Chance” starring Farhan Akhtar and Konkana Sen Sharma in the lead roles. Zoya feels while films have an audience of their own, it is the TV which is the most powerful medium in the country.

“What excites me about TV is that it is the most deeply penetrated medium in India. It reaches the most people. So, if there is any medium that has the power to make any change, it is television. It is the most powerful medium,” she said.

The “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara” helmer has been appointed as the community ambassador of Sony Pictures Network’s new English movie channel Sony Le PLEX HD.

Zoya says she was surprised when she was approached by the channel, but came on board as she is a big movie buff.

“I was surprised. I didn’t know what it was, I don’t do these kind of things. But then they told me what they wanted me to do. Their line-up of films is very impressive. The fact that they are trying to put cinema-driven content out there excited me,” she said.

“I liked their intentions. So I didn’t need to lie or pretend. It was my space. I am not a TV buff but a big movie buff. So that was very comfortable for me,” she added.
