New Delhi: It was nowhere in the imagination of the Zomato delivery executive Faiyaz that just a simple delivery of food parcel turned into a raging religious debate.
The customer named Amit Shukla, recently kicked up a storm online after he cancelled the order because Faiyaz was a “non-Hindu.”
Yes I Feel Hurt
Faiyaz, who was assigned the delivery to Amit, however, was hurt by all the dust kicked up but can’t do much because of his financial situation.
“Haan hurt to hue hai. Ab kya bolenge sir, ab log jaisa bolenge..sahi hai is par kya kar sakte hai gareeb log hai… sahna padega sir (Yes I feel hurt. What can I say sir, whatever people say…its okay what I can do in it… we are poor, we have suffer),” news agency PTI quoted .
Unfolding the sequence of events, Faiyaz narrated, “I called the person who had placed the order to know the location of his house. But he said he had cancelled the order,” he said.
‘Non-Hindu’ Debacle
Amit, a Twitter user @Namo_SARKAAR posted a scathing tweet, saying, “Just cancelled an order on @ZomatoIN they allocated a non-Hindu rider for my food they said they can’t change rider and can’t refund on cancellation I said you can’t force me to take a delivery I don’t want don’t refund just cancel.”
Zomato gave a witty response to this bigoted tweet, that won the praises on Internet: “Food doesn’t have a religion. It is a religion.”
The food aggregator faces vicious trolling following. Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal also said, “We are proud of the idea of India – and the diversity of our esteemed customers and partners. We aren’t sorry to lose any business that comes in the way of our values.”
