SRINAGAR: Remember the heart wrenching image of an inconsolable Zohra, the eight-year-old daughter of a slain Jammu and Kashmir police officer who was martyred in August?
Zohra hasn’t still been able to come to terms that her father is no more and will never come back. She was told that her father he had left for Haj and will come back some day, her mother Naseema Akhter said, reporter The Quint.
“Zohra refused to drink a single drop of water till she saw her father’s face. She asked me several times, ‘Why is he sleeping?’ I told her, ‘This is how people go for Haj.’ She stil believe that he is on a pilgrimage.”

For the youngest child, her father was her world. “Papa was my favourite person because he loved me the most. He got me what I wanted and he did exactly what I would ask him to do,” she said.
On August 28, Abdul Rashid Peer, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police. The 55-year-old ASI was gunned down by militants in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district and had succumbed to his injuries in a district hospital.
The crying images of little zohra still in her school uniform wailing after his death has come to represent the tragedy faced by Kashmir’s children.
