Zil Hajj moon not sighted, Eid-ul-Azha on Oct 27

The moon of the Islamic month of Zil Hajj has not been sighted in the State on Tuesday and therefore, the Eidul Azha will fall on October 27 (Saturday).

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee which met here on Tuesday evening, announced that the moon has not been sighted and therefore, Wednesday will be the 30th of Zil-Qaada. Majlis-e-Ulema-e-Deccan president Syed Mohammed Qubul Pasha Quadri Shuttari gave the official declaration after the religious Ulema (learned men) met at Hussaini Building at Moazzam Jahi Market.

Eidul Azha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice” or “Greater Eid” is an important religious day celebrated by Muslims across the world to commemorate the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son Hazrat Ismail (AS) as an act of obedience to God, before he intervened to replace a lamb instead of Hazrat Ismail (AS).

Eidul Azha is celebrated annually on the 10th day of the last Islamic month of Zil Hajj of the lunar Islamic calendar. The celebrations begin after the Hajj pilgrims descend from Mount Arafat. The Hajj congregation is also the world’s largest annual gathering.

The Tuesday’s meeting of Ruet-e-Hilaal Committee was attended by Moulana Mufti Mohammed Azeemuddin, Moulana Syed Kazim Pasha Quadri, Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed, Moulana Syed Mohammed Aulia Husssaini Murtuza Pasha, Moulana Tahir Quadri and other prominent Muslim scholars and elders. (INN)
