Zero tolerance policy have been affecting my close ones: Selena

Washington: Songstress Selena Gomez talked about the effects of the Trump administration’s ‘Zero-tolerance’ policy at the premiere of ‘Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.’

Around 55,000 people gathered the ‘Families belong together’ rally in Los Angeles a few miles away in downtown at the same time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Mexican-American actress talked about the issue and said, “It’s definitely been affecting so many people who are close to me.”

Gomez, who stars as Dracula’s daughter in, the ‘Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation’ took to Twitter to write, ‘ “Families seeking safety in our country need protection, understanding and opportunity, not detention,” she added “This is a moral choice, not a political one. #keepfamiliestogether #june30.”

In April, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the now-reversed policy zero-tolerance policy on the border to prosecute immigrants for entering the country illegally.

By virtue of this policy, families who crossed together illegally would in some cases be separated, prompting a sweeping outcry from Democrats and immigration advocates.

Nearly 2,000 children were taken away from their parents in a six-week period in April and May under the new Trump administration policy, according to several media reports.

Parents were arrested and placed in quick federal court proceedings near the border, while children are placed in shelters.
