Zama’s journey to National volleyball asst coach’s job

Kendrapara (Orissa), May 09: From the dusty and potholed roads of a district town in Orissa to donning the mantle of assistant coach of country’s volleyball team, 38-year-old Mohammad Masiuz Zama’s journey has been arduous and uphill.

Overcoming poor economic background and lack of scope for sporting activity, Zama from this district headquarters town has become an assistant coach of national youth volleyball team.

Now shouldering the responsibility of country’s assistant coach in forthcoming Asian Youth Championship scheduled to be held from May 13-21 in Tehran, Zama would be the first person from Orissa to be one of the coaches of the national volleyball team.

Zama, who represented country’s gold medal winning team in 1991 Colombo South Asian Federation (SAF) Games, was the first volleyball player from the state to represent the country.

“There is no shortcut to success in sports and games are concerned.
