Zakir Naik’s extradition almost done, says government

New Delhi: The external affairs ministry on Thursday said that the legal process of Zakir Naik’s extradition is almost completed.

Raveesh Kumar, spokesperson Ministry of external affairs (MEA) said that ministry’s internal process was underway, reports HT.

Naik was reportedly staying in Malaysia and had procured country’s permanent residency five years ago.

“The formal request for assistance of a foreign government in such cases requires a legal process. We are nearing the completion of this exercise. Soon an official request will be made to the Malaysian government. The internal process we have to complete is also underway,” Kumar said.

NIA had charged Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) for unlawful activities and declared him an absconder. The organization has been banned by government for five years.
