Lucknow: Following Supreme Court verdict in favour of building a Ram temple at the disputed Ayodhya site last week, Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board (UPSCWB) chairperson Zafar Farooqui has decided not to pursue the matter anymore.
According to NDTV, he says it had been our clear stand from day one that we would abide by the Supreme Court’s verdict – whatever it may be. Moreover, he doesn’t want to vitiate the atmosphere by going for a review, as the issue has already has created a deep divide in our society over the years.
UPSCWB was one of the main litigants in the case.
The Supreme Court on Saturday, ordered to hand over the disputed land in its entirety for the construction of a Ram temple while directing that a separate five-acre plot be given to Muslim litigants. Many Muslims expressed their dissatisfaction over the judgment. Some even asked not to accept the alternative land for the mosque. While some Muslim leaders said that the alternative land should come from the 67 acres of Ayodhya land acquired by the centre in 1991.
Mr Farooqui said they are getting diverse opinions from the people and they are still in the process of getting an opinion on the action required to comply with the order.
