Yuvraj Singh highest taxpayer in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, September 29: Cricket star Yuvraj Singh has become the highest tax payer in Chandigarh region, according to a data provided by the tax department.

Yuvraj for the assessment year 2012-2013 payed an advance tax of Rs 1.75 crore payed by him this Sep 2011 which was 84 percent more than the advance tax he paid in the year Sep 2010 that was Rs 95 lakh.

Among the corporate cadre, the State Bank of Patiala tops the list of highest tax payers. The bank paid an amount of Rs 139 crore surged by 54 percent when compared to the tax paid by them in Sep 2010. The data also reveals that the total advance tax of the bank reached Rs 203 crore.

The total advance tax collection of Chandigarh zoomed by 25 percent till Sep 15. The total tax collected from corporates were at Rs 449.10 crore while from individuals stood at Rs 70 crore.

Glaxo Smithkline and Swaraj Engines made it to the second and third slot respectively in the list of top ten corporate companies paying an advance tax of Rs 16 crore and Rs 6.4 crore each.

Falling under the category of non-corporate tax payers, Chandigarh Housing Board made it to the second position in the list as they paid an advance tax of Rs 1.5 crore.

In the current fiscal, Chandigarh has already have made a growth of 47 percent in terms of income tax collection.
