New Delhi, September 08: K V P Ramachandra Rao, a trusted aide of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, arrived on Monday evening to discuss the political situation arising out of the latter’s sudden death with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and other senior leaders.
Rao, who has been spearheading the campaign to install YSR’s son Jagan Mohan Reddy as the next chief minister of the state, landed in the Capital along with 15 MPs and will meet the senior party leaders today.
Before meeting Sonia Gandhi, Rao, a Rajya Sabha MP, will discuss the issue with senior leaders Pranab Mukherjee, Digvijay Singh and Ahmed Patel.
Following the death of YSR in a helicopter crash near Kurnool last week, the race for chief ministership of the state has hotted up.
The Congress quickly named Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister K Rosaiah as the interim chief minister and also roped in ministers in the YSR government to take oath once again under the new chief minister.
However, the party high command is yet to take a final decision on the chief ministership in the state with YSR’s supporters pitching for Jagan Mohan to take up the mantle to continue the former chief minister’s legacy.
