A delegation of YSRCP MLAs on Monday called on Governor ESL Narasimhan complaining about the irregularities in the enrollment of voters list for the ensuing elections to cooperative bodies in the State.
The delegation, comprising Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, G Srikanth Reddy, B Gurunatha Reddy and Mekathoti Sucharitha, explained to the Governor in detail about the alleged irregularities committed by the ruling Congress party by brazenly misusing the State’s official machinery to gain undue political mileage in the elections. The Governor has assured the delegation that he would look into the matter and take necessary action.
In their memorandum, the YSRCP MLAs alleged that the Congress Government was misusing the official machinery to somehow or the other retain the Congress Party’s existing predominance in various Cooperative institutions including PACS, District Cooperative banks, APCOB and DCMS. They said that the misuse raises serious questions about the commitment of the government for democratic process.
“In the past, we have heard of rigging the elections; what we are helplessly watching now is the rigging of electoral lists in almost all the districts,” they alleged.
They said that unlike the General Elections and local bodies and Panchayat Raj institutions elections, there was no independent body to conduct the Cooperative elections as per the AP Cooperative Societies Act,1964.
The YSRCP MLAs requested the Governor to order an independent probe into the large-scale rigging of electoral rolls so that appropriate action is initiated against all those responsible for such reprehensible acts and for drawing out the proper electoral lists by giving chance to all genuine and eligible voters. “Unless this is done, we are afraid, no purpose will be served in holding these elections; nor will we be justified as a political party in participating in these elections,” they said.
They also requested the Governor to take steps to ensure free and fair elections to cooperative bodies in the State. (INN)
