YSRCP demands release of water from KC canal

A delegation of YSR Congress party leaders from the Rayalaseema region on Tuesday urged Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to release water from Srisailam Dam to KC Canal ayacutdars in Kurnool district immediately.

Talking to reporters at Assembly media point after submitting the memorandum, YSRCP Deputy floor leader Shobha Nagireddy said that Kiran Kumar Reddy did not give any positive assurance to the delegation. However, he assured that he would look into the issue after consulting the officials concerned.

Shoba Nagireddy said that the paddy crop growers in Kurnool district suffered a huge loss due to withering of crops due to shortage of water and facing piquant situation. She said that the engineers in Srisailam Dam could discharge water to KC Canal as its storage level touched 870 feet level due to copious rains in upper catchment areas. She warned the Chief Minister that leaders from Rayalaseema would intensify their agitation for the farmers cause if the government fails to release water from Srisailam Dam.

She also criticised Kiran Kumar Reddy for his inefficiency in taking decisions slowly due to lack of administrative experience. MLA Srikant Reddy was also present.
