Telugu Desam party’s vigorous and hectic electioneering in the Seemandhra region, where it is posing a formidable challenge to both Congress and YSRCP, received a setback with the arrest of the party’s two prominent and popular campaigners in Krishna and Anantapur districts.
Former Home Minister Vasantha Nageshwara Rao’s son Vasanth Krishnaprasad, who has been actively campaigning for Telugu Desam in Nandigama of Krishna district was arrested by the police in connection with a past murder case. Though he has no role in the murder case, he was allegedly implicated and arrested in order to create hurdles in TDP election campaigning, it is alleged by the party leaders in the district.
After Krishnaprasad’s arrest and medical checkup in the hospital, the police produced him in the court and was remanded to judicial custody till May 16. It is charged that the YSRCP colluded with the police to get Krishnaprasad arrested as he had taken up the TDP campaign on a war-footing in the constituency.
It is pertinent to note here that Krishnaprasad’s father Nageshwara Rao, a former Home Minister, had jumped into the YSRCP from the Congress sometime back and has been playing an active role in the party. After coming to know of his son’s arrest, which he claimed was unwarranted and illegal, Nageshwara Rao resigned from YSRCP in protest and joined the Telugu Desam today.
The police also cracked the whip on TDP in Anantapur district by arresting Paritala Sriram, son of late Paritala Ravi and Paritala Sunitha, who is contesting from Rapthadu Assembly constituency. He was arrested in connection with a rioting case in Ellakuntla of Kanagalapally mandal where the TDP and YSRCP were engaged in a clash in which both sides indulged in stone throwing. An active and effective leader, who has been relentlessly campaigning for the success of his mother, a sitting member, his arrest is bound to affect the campaigning. It is alleged by Paritala Suinitha that her son was arrested at the behest of YSRCP by the police whom she charged were working as the agents of Jaganmohan Reddy. (NSS)
