YSR Congress Party on Sunday urged the Centre to frame a national policy on road safety besides improving the safety measures at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) in wake of the recent tragedy which could have been averted.
“We will write to the Centre and Prime Minister about taking appropriate steps and safety measures at VSP and also draft an effective national road safety policy to avoid mishaps,” the Party Advisor DA Somayajulu told reporters here.
The Party Honorary President, YS Vijayamma visited the families of victims of Lakshmipeta dalits and also the kin of those killed in a blast at VSP.
YSRC condoled the death all those killed in a road accident en route Shiridi and demanded a national road safety policy to avoid such grave mishaps by take certain strict measures.
On the by-poll results he said that it was the failure of the ruling party and main opposition TDP to reach out to the people that caused the debacle for them but not the arrest of YS Jaganmohan Reddy nor any such reason, he said.
“The writing was on the wall for long. Congress has officially conducted a survey on May 11 this year which had clearly shown YSR Congress will sweep in the June 12 by-elections to Nellore Lok Sabha and 18 assembly seats. Then the politics of vendetta has come into play and YS Jaganmohan Reddy was arrested as part of the conspiracy,” Somayajulu said.
The survey was no different to what the earlier surveys conducted one year back by various agencies and institutions which predicted almost similar results.
It was the anti-people policies of Congress government and the failure opposition party to play its designated role that have drifted people away and gave mandate to YS Jaganmohan Reddy who was with the people for nearly three years, he said.
Vayalar Ravi’s statement attributing the Congress debacle to the arrest of Jagan proves a point that CBI is functioning under the directions of Central government. A leading national magazine had clearly mentioned about the confabulations between senior Congress leaders including Ghulam Nabi Azad with Narayanawamy of Prime Minister’s Office and Sonia Gandhi before the arrest of Jagan.
“Two things are obvious, CBI is functioning under the directions of Congress and the reason for the by-poll debacle for Congress is its anti-people policies. The combined votes to Congress and TDP are less than the votes polled to YSRC shows that with people are with Jagan,” he said.
The main opposition TDP has brought in a new political concept of human bombs by sacrificing its candidate to the main rival to defeat a common enemy which was seen at Narsapuram and Raachadrapuram where TDP lost its deposits to ensure Congress victory, he said.
The results should be seen as a pent up anger by the voters for the past three years, as YSR schemes were diluted one after the other and affecting various sections, more so farmers, weavers, students, senior citizens, minorities.
The polling percentage of TDP has fallen from by 11 per cent in this by-poll to 22 per cent and the coming days it will be wiped out as it failed to play its role as main opposition and has shown its true colours by joining hands with Congress. TDP was founded on the principle of anti-Congress and naturally people will reject the party if it deviates from the core agenda, he said. (INN)
