YSRC leaders arrested throughout the state

In a precautionary swoop, police have arrested the YSR Congress official spokesperson Jupudi Prabhakara Rao and party’s Nellore Lok Sabha candidate Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy on Monday.

According to information, police have arrested Jupudi when he went to Kukatpalli to have a medical checkup at a hospital there. He was taken to his house, where he was kept under house arrest.

Speaking to the media, Jupudi has alleged that TDP and Congress had colluded to suppress his party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. He has expressed confidence that the party would win all the 18 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seats.

Meanwhile, reports from Nellore said that police had also arrested Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, YSRC candidate in the Nellore Lok Sabha by-election on Monday as a precautionary measure. Speaking to the media, Rajamohan Reddy has alleged that the government’s attitude reminded of the Emergency days.

Protesting against the arrest of their leader, YSRC activists have staged a dharna at the statue of YSR in the town. Raja Mohan Reddy has alleged that Jagan was arrested only to prevent him from campaigning for his party.

Reports said that many of the supporters of Jagan party were either kept under House arrest or were arrested by the Police throughout the State, as a precautionary measure.

IN HYDERABAD

In the capital, large number of persons were either arrested or kept under house arrest by the police. At Malkajgiri, YSRC leaders Suryanarayana Reddy, Sumathi Mohan and thirty others were kept under house arrest. At Chandanagar, nearly 60 YSRC women members were arrested. Police arrested Vanga Madhusudhan Reddy and many other party workers when they organized protest demonstration at Gandhi statue in Karmanghat. In Malakpet police station limits also, many YSRC leaders were arrested.

YSRC Greater Hyderabad SC Cell convenor N Ravi Kumar, Ramana Reddy and others undertook fast in Balanagar police station.

The Macherla YSRC candidate P Ramakrishna Reddy was kept under house arrest. In Bapatla, YSRC leader Kona Raghupathi was arrested. Party workers launched a sit-in at the Police station.

In Krishna district, YSRC leaders organized a relay hunger strike in Jonnapadu. Police arrested them. In Kaikaluru, YSRC supporters launched relay hunger strike in the party office, under the leadership of Dulam Nageswara Rao. Krishna district party convenor Samineni Udayabhanu was arrested at Suryapet while he was proceeding to Hyderabad.

The Police took YSR Congress senior leader and former MLA Konda Surekha into custody in Warangal district. The police took her into custody at local bus stand at Raghunathapally when she was proceeding from Hanmakonda to Hyderabad. Verbal war took place between the police officials and Surekha for sometime. The police shifted her to Janagoan DSP office. (NSS)
