YSRC DEALS A HUMILIATING DEFEAT ON CONGRESS IN NELLORE

The YSR Congress candidate Mekapati Raja Mohan Reddy has retained his Nellore Lok Sabha seat by dealing a humiliating defeat on the high profile Congress candidate T Subbarami Reddy, by a margin of over 2.91,000 votes.
Mekapati has resigned to his Lok Sabha seat and the Congress party protesting against the inclusion of the name of the late Chief Minister Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy, in the charge-sheet filed by the CBI charging his son Y S Jaganmohan Reddy of amassing disproportionate assets.
Congress party which found it difficult to find a candidate to match the strength of Mekapati, convinced former union minister Subbarami Reddy, who has earlier represented the Visakhaptnam constituency in the Lok Sabha, to contest as he hails from Nellore district. Mekapati has got a majority of 2,91,745 votes over his nearest rival Subbarami Reddy. This is said to be the biggest margin in Nellore Lok Sabha constituency’s history. TDP’s Venu Gopala Reddy had to satisfy himself with third place.
With the victory of Mekapati, the strength of the YSR Congress in the Lok Sabha has increased to
2, as Jaganmohan Reddy is already representing the Kadapa constituency in the House. (NSS)
