YSR Congress Party on Tuesday said that Telugu Desam Party has lost its moral right to continue as the main opposition party as its leader N Chandrababu Naidu has been very keen on saving the Kiran Kumar Reddy government.
“Redefining the role of an Opposition Party, Naidu has been telling that they will not take any steps that would lead to the fall of the government and it’s a different matter if the government crumbles on its own weight. This speaks of the raw opportunism of the TDP,” party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma told reporters here.
After the poll debacle which has given a clear mandate to YSRC in 15 assembly and Nellore Lok Sabha, which account for ten per cent of the total electorate as the by-polls covered 22 assembly segments, TDP was aghast by the results and did not speak anything against Congress.
“This clearly shows that the TDP and Congress are working in tandem and it was evident in a series of incidents prior to the polls, during and polls and Chandrababu Naidu intends to continue the unholy alliance even after by-polls to safeguard the Kiran Kumar Reddy government,” she said.
The common target for both the parties was YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during the by-poll and after the results which come strongly in favour of YSRC, Chandrababu Naidu has been searching for lame reason like sympathy wave, arrest of Jagan and taking him in an ordinary van to court.
“The same events did not occur when YS Jagan Mohan Reddy contested for Kadapa Lok Sabha and won by a record margin of over 5 lakh votes, such things did not happen when YSRC won the Kovur seat. These are but lame excuses to cover up the fact that people have bluntly rejected them, she said.
Though TDP described the by-poll results as a passing phase and the trend will not continue in 2014, Vasireddy Padma said, “this phase has come to stay, whenever the polls come, as the ruling Congress and main opposition TDP are going away from the people while people are looking at YSRC as the only viable alternative. They are seeing future in our party.”
TDP has not won a single by-poll and its base is eroding and eroding fast which is evident from the polling percentage, she said adding that this was one very good reason for Chandrababu Naidu to safeguard the interests of Congress government as he fears that an early election would wipe his party out. Instead of beating round the bush he can categorically say that TDP supports Congress government and shoulders the responsibility to protect the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. (INN)
