Former minister Dr P Shankar Rao on Wednesday came down heavily on Congress leaders who described former Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy as ‘anti-Dalit.’
Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party Office, Shankar Rao said that the Dalits enjoyed good position during the stint of YSR. He said that YSR made dalit leaders as Government Whips in the Congress party and always worked for the welfare of dalit community.
Stating that majority of Dalits left the Congress party after the demise of YSR, he said that remaining dalits would leave the Congress party if the leaders do not stop targeting YSR in the ensuing by-elections campaign. “I have never targeted the former chief minister YSR personally anytime except raising corruption issue,” he said.
Dr Shankar Rao said that the party would suffer major debacle in the ensuing by-elections if the leaders make irresponsible statements against YSR. He appealed to the Congress High Command to intervene in this issue and take stern action against such leaders. (INN)
