YSR statue set on fire: Tension in Guntur village

Tension mounted in a village in this district when unknown miscreants had set a statue of late Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on fire, before it was unveiled.

According to information, a statue of YSR was set up in the SC colony of Yalamanda village in this district. The statue was covered with papers, as it was yet to be unveiled. On Monday, some unidentified persons have come to the place and set the statue on fire. Papers covering the statue were burnt and the statue got blackened. On knowing this, YSR Congress activists rushed to the spot and staged a dharna, demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants.

Police said the miscreants came to the place at around 3 am, poured petrol and kerosene on the statue and set it on fire. They said they had registered a case and were trying to trace the miscreants. (NSS)
