With YSR gone, TRS plans to resurrect itself

Hyderabad, October 12: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has decided to play a strategic role in State politics to regain its dominance in the Telangana region, and has redrawn its strategies in the wake of the sudden demise of YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

During the Rajasekhara Reddy regime TRS faced hardships and even its identity became a question mark.

After the 2009 elections its chief K Chandrasekhara Rao spent sleepless nights with party secretary-general and Medak MP Vijayasanti and several other MLAs veering towards the Rajasekhara Reddy camp. Now, the party decided to utilise the opportunity to take a sweet revenge against the loyalists of Rajasekhara Reddy.

The TRS leadership has drawn a long-term strategy which would be useful for its political survival and is likely to finish off their political opponents within and outside the party.

As part of the strategy, the party seems to be establishing good political relations with Congress party high command, particularly the coterie around Sonia Gandhi. It also decided to attack Rajasekhara Reddy loyalists by exposing the misdeeds in the previous State government’s Jalaygnam and questioning the State’s integration.

It is also trying on garner the support of other Telangana protagonists for strengthening the party at the grassroot level. The TRS leadership has decided to bring out CDs and irrigation project maps in a bid to `expose the Jalayagnam’.

The party will also release a `secret’ information on the irregularities in the Jalayagnam execution. As part of a plan to publicise the issue nationwide, it planned to take national media reporters on an aerial survey of the Jalayagnam projects.

It remains to be seen whether TRS’ attempts would infuse a new life into the party’s rank and file.
