Hyderabad, July 20: The State BJP President, Bandaru Dattatreya has said that the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy should have brought pressure on the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh on the ‘illegal’ projects on Godavari river in Maharashtra including the Babli project.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said the Chief Minister should not be happy with the issue referred to the Central Water Commission. He alleged that Central Water Commission’s views were not being taken seriously by the Maharashtra government as well as the concerned Ministry. “It is a temporary solution to such a big threat to the Telangana farmers.”
Mr. Dattattreya wanted the Parliament to discuss this issue of downstream States getting affected with illegal barrages and projects and form a national water policy. “Almost every State has a river water dispute with the upstream States and this issue needs to be discussed thoroughly in Parliament.”
He accused the State government of failing to protect the water rights of the State and yet promoting jalayagnam.
Mr. Dattatreya termed ‘ridiculous’ the Chief Minister’s statement that only the price of red gram was high.
