YSR death: Succession war gets murkier in Andhra

Hyderabad, September 26: The succession war following the untimely death of late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has got murkier with a section of party workers, pitching for his son Jaganmohan’s elevation, openly protesting the Congress high command’s delay in announcing a successor.

Supporters of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy have been disrupting the party’s membership drive in the state for the past three days, some of the local Congress leaders said.

In almost every district, unruly supporters of the Kadapa MP disrupted the Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas’ teleconference with the respective district Congress committees demanding that Jagan be made the Chief Minister immediately, they said.

This act of open rebellion, however, angered Congress high command with party general secretary in charge of AP affairs M Veerappa Moily seeking a report immediately from the PCC president on the happenings in the last three days.

“Membership drive is of prime importance for the party. Crackdown on all such unruly elements will be done and we will not tolerate indiscipline,” Moily reportedly told Srinivas.

Today, supporters of Jagan locked up the East Godavari DCC office in Kakinada and did not allow the teleconference while in Khammam the DCC chief was dragged out of the office.

Similar unruly scenes were witnessed in Nellore and Warangal districts as well with Jagan’s supporters raising their voices in protest against the party high command’s indecision on appointing their leader as the successor to Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
