YSR congress decides to vote for Pranab

The YSR Congress party has decided to vote for the UPA’s Presidential nominee Pranab Mukherjee. A decision to this effect was taken by the party MLAs and MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, who met under the leadership of party’s honorary president Y S Vijayamma.

Speaking to the media later, Rajamohan Reddy and former MP Mysoora Reddy have said that the party has decided to vote above political considerations in the Presidential election to be held on Thursday. They said that they had decided to value the vote and cast it, instead of abstaining.

As there were only two options of either choosing the UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee or the NDA nominee P A Sangma, they chose the first option.

Raja Mohan Reddy said abstaining from polling was against the spirit of democracy. He explained that the party has decided to vote for Pranab Mukherjee having confidence that he would be able to dispense justice to all the political parties in this era of coalition governments. He said that they were hoping that he would discharge his duties as the first citizen, dispassionately. He also said that the party has decided to vote for Hameed Ansari, a candidate of the minority community in the Vice- Presidential election.

When the media mentioned about the TDP stand to remain neutral and not to vote to either Pranab Mukherjee of the UPA or P A Sangma of NDA, he said that it was their stand and there was no rule that the YSR Congress should follow them.
