Deccan Charges coach darren Lehman today expressed confidence that the youthful team will play to its potential in the fifth season of Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking to newsmen after the announcement of team sponsor Emirates here, he said, ‘We have a very young team and there are talented local players. That way, the opponents will have no clue about our potential, which will be an added advantage for us.’
He said though it was sad to lose Ishant (Sharma) to injury and Pragyan (Ojha) moving to Mumbai Indians, the team had players to fill in their shoes. Amit Mishra will be leading the spin attack. DC co-owner Gayathri Reddy and team COO Venkat Reddy said ‘With new sponsorship and five new domestic players in the team, we are ready to roll and scale newer heights. We will be playing at three venues-Visakhapatnam, Cuttack and Hyderabad.
This is done to take the game to a wider audience.’ On the lack of practice sessions, Cameron White who will lead the team in the first match in the absence of Kumara Sangakkara, said, ‘It is the case with every team. But still we are preparing well.’ Chargers will start their campaign against the defending champions Chennai Supers Kings on April 7. UNI
