New Delhi: The youth arrested for allegedly harassing a 20-year-old Delhi University student in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar was granted bail, police said today.
In her complaint, the girl had alleged that the accused, Sarabjit Singh (26), had brashly posed for a photograph when told by the former that she would report the matter to police.
“The accused can come with a fresh complaint which will be subjected to unbiased investigation. Probe of the present case is also underway. We are monitoring CCTV grabs and collecting more evidences,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Dependra Pathak said.
Her Facebook post, uploaded with the photograph of the accused, had gone viral on various social media platforms leading to widespread outrage.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had also lauded the girl’s courage and said in a post on Twitter, “Congratulate… Her bravery. Girls of Delhi should follow her & speak up against such unacceptable acts.”
A resident of West Delhi’s Pashchimpuri area, Singh (26), was booked under Sections 354A (punishment for sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC.
Delhi Police had announced a cash reward of Rs 5,000 for the girl, a final year English literature student.
