Youth shot at by Akali Sarpanch, condition serious

Gurdaspur: A youth was seriously injured after he was allegedly shot at by an Akali sarpanch at Thikriwal village under Sekhwan police station in the district today, police said.

The youth was admitted to a hospital in Amritsar.

Confirming the incident, SHO Lakhwinder Singh said that Avtar Singh Sarpanch of Thikriwal opened fire from his licensed rifle on Harpreet Singh Happy following a minor scuffle.

He fired two shot on Happy who sustained seriously injuries.

Singh said there was compromise meeting between two parties over a dispute for which both had gathered in the house of Avtar Singh Sarpanch but he opened fire when Happy objected him over the dispute.

The condition of Happy is stated to be very critical, police said, adding a case has been registered against Avtar Singh, who was absconding.
