New Delhi, January 19: Delhi Police arrested a youth Wednesday for allegedly stealing a man’s purse and withdrawing cash with the debit cards in it. There is no clue as to how he cracked the personal identity numbers, police said.
The accused, Ravi, was arrested from Kalyanpuri on a complaint filed by Sanjeev Kumar Malhotra.
Malhotra, in a Jan 16 police complaint, said that he noticed the purse missing Jan 5 after withdrawing cash from Punjab National Bank (PNB).
“He took the matter lightly and did not make any police complaint that day. He received a message from the bank on his mobile Jan 16 saying Rs.15,000 was withdrawn from his PNB debit card and Rs.2,500 from his State Bank of India card. Malhotra immediately filed a complaint,” said a senior police officer.
Police identified Ravi through the closed-circuit television (CCTV) feed and nabbed him.
During interrogation, Ravi told police that he was at the ATM because he had lost his purse there. “When asked about his PIN, he was clueless,” said the police officer.
The money withdrawn has been recovered, he added.
