Hyderabad, October 11: In an incident which comes straight from a Bollywood flick, a youth turned up at his lover’s marriage and attempted suicide in front of her Friday forcing the girl’s parents to call off the marriage.
The incident took place under the Chandrayangutta police limits in Old City. The condition of 22-year-old Shaik Samiuddin, a resident of Talabkatta is critical.
The victims family owns a jewellery shop in Old City. The girl is presently pursuing her second year intermediate.
According to Chandrayangutta police, Samiuddin was in love with a 19-year-old girl for the last one year. They got to know each other through common friends. However, the girl’s parents fixed her marriage with a close relative against her wishes.
The marriage was scheduled for Friday night at Naseem Gardens in Bandlaguda.
Even as the marriage rituals were going on, Samiuddin showed up at the venue. He pulled out a knife and went close to the girl and threatened to kill himself if he was not allowed to marry her. Though some guests present there tried to prevent him, the youngster attempted suicide by stabbing himself. He suffered grievous injuries in stomach and was immediately shifted to a corporate hospital.
“The incident took place at 11:00 p.m and the victim is presently undergoing treatment in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital,’’ Chandrayangutta sub-inspector Srinivas said.
