Kanpur, March 22: The body of 24-year-old youth was found hanging from a pipal tree in Chunniganj area’s Nagar Nigam Park.
Rajesh Kumar Valmiki, who had not visited his Sudarshan Nagar residence for the last few days, was found hanging from a towel. Apart from a deep mark on the neck region, no other injuries were visible on his body. While the body has been sent for postmortem, the Colonelganj police suspect that Valmiki committed suicide due to differences with his family. No suicide note has been recovered.
According to sources in the police, Valmiki’s father Shrawan and mother Seema had died a few years ago. Both were Class IV employees of Kanpur Nagar Nigam (KNN).
“After their death, the elder son Munna and daughter Kiran got jobs at KNN, but Valmiki had no other option but to work in a tea stall,” said a source. Valmiki’s financial condition was a major cause of dispute between him and his family.
“Valmiki often misbehaved with his family members. Therefore, we frequently scolded him and told him to improve his habits,” Munna told mediapersons. He added that Valmiki often used to go missing for a few days. “Earlier too, he had disappeared on several occasions without informing anyone,” he said.
Munna claimed that after a dispute with his family, Valmiki left on March 17 and did not return. He denied that Valmiki had any personal or professional rivalry with any individual.
Kanpur DIG Prem Prakash said: “Prima facie it appears that Valmiki had committed suicide, but the actual cause of death would be confirmed by the postmortem report.” No FIR has been lodged in the incident, he added.
