A youth was killed while two others were injured Monday when a stone-pelting mob clashed with security forces in Sopore town of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Witnesses said security forces fired at the mob, killing Arshad Ahmad, a resident of Naseem Bagh area in the town in Baramulla district.
Police, however, said they were still confirming about the firing incident.
The two injured people were taken to Srinagar for specialised treatment.
The incident took place when an angry mob started pelting stones at security forces following the death of a foreign militant – identified as Mehmood Bhai of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit – in a gunfight with security forces.
The gun battle started Sunday evening in Krankshevan area of the town where security forces surrounded a house on receiving information about two-three guerrillas hiding inside.
While the foreign guerrilla was killed, an associate believed to be a local escaped from the site.
Immediately after the news spread in the town, angry youths started pelting stones at security forces.
People took part in a large procession carrying the body of the young man.
Administration officials have rushed to the spot to look into the law and order situation.

Police said in a statement that after the completion of the operation in Baba Raza Krankshevan area in which the Pakistani militant was killed, the security personnel were returning from the area when they were pelted with stones.
“The mob attempted to set afire a security armoured vehicle. Security forces used non-lethal weapons but the situation could not be controlled,” police said.
A few shots were fired injuring four people.
One of the injured, identified as Arshad Ahmad Shah, son of Abdul Aziz Shah, residents of Seer Jagir area, died of his injuries.
The other injured were hospitalised and are said to be out of danger.
Protesters carrying the body of the youth refused to bury him unless those responsible for the killing were punished.
