Youth involved in murder of retired police constable arrested

New Delhi: A youth who was involved in the murder of a retired Delhi Police constable, which later turned out the fallout of a rivalry between the accused and the former policeman’s son, at southwest Delhi’s Chhawla area, have been arrested, police said today.

The accused, identified as Dharmender (22), was a member of a southwest Delhi-based gang headed by one Manjit Mahal, said a senior police officer.

The incident took place on December 20 night when two murders took place in a span of three hours, the second being the revenge for the first, following which two cases were registered in the same police station, said the official.

“In the first incident, one Nafe Singh alias Mantri and his associates committed murder of one Sunil alias Doctor, brother-in-law of notorious gangsters Jyoti and Nandu. Soon, brothers of Jyoti and Nandu, along with their associates, attacked at Mantri’s house. They fired at Mantri’s father, wife and mother but spared the children,” said the senior official.

“While Mantri’s father Hari Kishan, a retired Delhi Police constable, died, the two women are reported to be in critical condition,” the official said.

Based on a tip off, the police arrested Dharmender, who was involved in the second murder, from Dwarka Sector 17 last night. The other accused involved in the murders, including history-sheeter Manjit Mahal, are still at large, the official added.
