Hyderabad, October 28: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old man hacked his mother and younger brother to death and attempted to kill another brother at Chellapur in Doulatabad mandal in Mahaboobnagar district today.
The accused, M Vijay, attacked his mother Sivamma (45) with an axe killing her instantaneously. He then attacked his 14-year-old brother Venkatesh who was sleeping and the profusely bleeding teenager died on way to hospital.
Police said Vijay was an alcoholic and might have decided to eliminate other family members to get hold of the entire property. He used to pester his mother for money to meet his liquor expenses.
“Vijay must have demanded money from his mother late last night and as she refused, he entered into an argument with her and in a fit of rage hit Sivamma on the head with an axe,’’ Doulatabad SI Hanuman Goud said. Police suspect he was in an inebriated condition when the incident took place around 12.40 a.m. Vijay is the eldest son of Sivamma.
After attacking the duo in the house, Vijay went to his neighbour’s house where his other brother, Srinivas, was sleeping. “Srinivas saw blood stains on Vijay’s clothes and suspecting danger did not open the door,’’ Goud said.
After Vijay left, Srinivas entered their house to find his mother and brother in a pool of blood. He then tried to save Venkatesh’ life but in vain. Meanwhile, locals caught Vijay, tied him to a tree, thrashed him and later handed him over to the police.
Vijay was married two years back and his wife gave birth to a baby three days ago. But the infant died.
