Youth ends life due to Police harassment

A day earlier, the State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) ordered the Hyderabad police commissioner to make inquiries into the suicide attempt by 28-year-old businessman Mohammed Jaffar, who had jumped off his house at Kalapather to getaway from the alleged harassment ofpolice, had succumbed to injuries at Osmania General Hospital on Wednesday.

Jaffar had jumped off the second floor of the building on January 8 and suffered a serious head injury.

MBT corporator Amjadullah Khan aqfter the incident had filed a petition before the APSHRC claiming that Jaffar took the extreme step to police harassment. The corporator had also alleged that Kalapather police had illegally arrested Jaffar on February 6 and subjected him to third degree treatment and threatened to incriminate him in a cheating case.

On the basis of the petition, the rights body on Tuesday directed Hyderabad police Chief Anurag Sharma to conduct an investigation into the matter and submit a report by Thursday with details of the case diary.
