Youth drowns in YMCA swimming pool

Mumbai, Jun 06: A 19-year-old man drowned in a swimming pool in the premises of Youth Men Christian Association (YMCA) hostel in south Mumbai, police said today.

The victim, Abdul Kadir Sayyad, resident of Byculla area, drowned last evening while swimming in the pool, they said.

After some time, people noticed Abdul lying unconscious in the pool. They took him to nearby hospital where he was declared dead, police added.

“Abdul was suffering from diabetes. We are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain if he fell unconscious because of diabetes that may have resulted in drowning,” Agripada Police Station Inspector Praveen Gosavi said.

He said Abdul was going for swimming classes to the YMCA for last one month.

A case was registered against YMCA management under Section 304-A (death due to negligence), Gosavi said, adding the management was asked to give their version on the incident.
