Sagar, August 24: Twelve youth Congress (YC) workers suffered injuries today when police cane charged them and fired teargas shells to disperse demonstrators, protesting against alleged corruption in a local municipal body, police said.
The youth wing workers had held a rally at Teen Madia addressed by Congress MLAs Govind Rajput and Narayan Prasad Prajapati in protest against the alleged corruption in the Sagar Municipal Corporation.
Later, they proceeded towards Corporation office and when police prevented them from heading towards the local body office by erecting barricades at the road, they suddenly started pelting stones, police said.
To control the situation, police cane charged them and fired teargas shells in which nearly 12 Youth Congress workers sustained injuries, they said.
Later, large number of YC workers led by the State Youth Congress President, Jeetu Patwari courted arrest in protest against the incident.
