Hyderabad, December 09: The Andhra Pradesh Youth Congress is gearing up to launch a massive membership drive in the State.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Indian Youth Congress Election Commissioner Prakash Joshi and IYC – AP in-charge Jyothi Mani said that a 21-day pre-membership drive has already been launched in the State. “This will be followed by membership drive for 28 days during January and February,” Joshi said.
Joshi said that for the first time the IYC would hold internal party elections wherein all office bearers including the Andhra Pradesh Youth Congress president would be elected by the members. Elections will be held for the Youth Congress leadership in all the booths in Andhra Pradesh. To ensure the fairness of the election process, the Foundation for Advanced Management of Elections (FAME) has been requested to independently audit the membership and election process and ensure that it is impartial and open to participation for all. FAME is an NGO launched by former Chief Election Commissioner JM Lyngdoh.
Jyothi Mani said that the IYC has so far enrolled 1.08 crore members and have over 4 lakh office bearers across the country. A few more lakh members are likely to be enrolled in January and February next year before holding the direct elections for the office bearers, she said.
The IYC leaders said that efforts were being made to ensure that people with clean background are elected as office bearers.
