Youth Congress ‘chaiwala’ meme leaves opposition red faced

New Delhi: After Rahul Gandhi had recently asked the Youth Congress to respect PM Modi, an official Twitter handle of Youth Congress posted a meme, featuring PM Modi along with US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

The Twitter meme of Youth Congress online magazine Yuva Desh showed the three leaders in conversation.
Where PM Modi says: “Aap logon ne dekha vipaksh mere kaise kaise maimai banvata hai?”, Trump corrects him and says “usse maimai nahin, meem kehte hain”– it is pronounced as ‘meem’ not maimai, while May asks Modi to sell tea – “Tu chai bech”.

As an act of damage control, the tweet was later deleted. The Spokesperson of Communication department head, Randeep Surjewala said: “INC (Indian National Congress) strongly disapproves and rejects such humour through memes. Differences in policy and opinion aside, Congress culture imbibes respect for the PM and all political opponents.”

Youth Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Brar also tweeted and wrote, “Despite political differences with the BJP and having suffered everyday abuse from their leaders, we respect the Prime Minister and all political opponents.”

However, the BJP slammed the tweet and said it reflected the “arrogance” of the Congress.

Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi had recently asked 2,200 campaigning youths in Banaskantha district to maintain dignity while criticizing the opposition.

“We will counter the lies of BJP with truth, not anger. You are Congress workers. You must maintain dignity. We will put our point across to people, counter trolls, but we will not go beyond a point,” he had said.
