Youth beats father’s gay partner to death

Lucknow, July 22: A 28-year-old man allegedly murdered his father’s gay partner in Kanpur on Sunday.

Police said trouble began on Sunday evening when Krishna Raj Srivastava, a deputy chief medical officer, visited the family home in Naubasta area of Kanpur with his gay partner, Rajiv Dwivedi (38).

Srivastava took Rajiv to his bedroom and the two shared several rounds of drinks.

Some time later, Srivastava’s son Anubhav (28), who had strong reservations about their relationship, barged into the room. In a fit of rage, he started beating up Rajiv.
Rajiv managed to escape, but not before he suffered severe head injuries. He went home and locked himself in his bedroom. “He did not talk to anyone,” his father, Krishna Kumar, told the police. His mother, Lakshmi, found him dead on Monday evening.

Krishna Kumar lodged a complaint with the police, accusing Anubhav and his father of killing his son.

Rajiv’s estranged wife Shakuntala gave an intriguing twist to the murky tale by filing a separate FIR accusing her father-in-law and brother-in-law of killing her husband over a property dispute.

The police said property seemed to be the immediate provocation for the murder. Anubhav had got wind that his father had transferred some family property in Rajiv’s name.

The police said Srivastava was posted in Allahabad, while his son lived in Kanpur. His wife left him several years ago after knowing about his homosexual preferences. Rajiv, who married 15 years ago, was also separated from his wife, Shakuntala, for the same reason. Srivastava often took Rajiv to live with him in Allahabad, the police said.
