Youth arrested for raping girl on train

Mumbai, December 05: A rape case has been filed against a 20-year-old Pune resident, Kishan Sahani, after a 15-year-old girl alleged that he raped her on board the Deccan Queen during the journey from Pune to Mumbai. Sahani has been arrested.

The girl in her First Information Report to Dadar GRP has alleged that Sahani compartment of a Mumbai-Ahmedabad train that was parked in one of the loop lines between Dadar and Matunga, towards midnight and raped her.

The police said the girl reportedly left her house in Solapur after a tiff with her family. She had reached Pune and had boarded the Deccan Queen from Thane. On the journey she befriended co-passenger Sahani. After the train arrived at Dadar late in the night, there seems to have been some communication between the two, after which Sahani is believed to have made her walk the track, before stopping at an empty compartment of a parked Mumbai-Ahmedabad train.

The girl approached the police in the morning with a Mumbai-based relative to lodge the complaint. “It’s a case of rape. We are taking both the versions as the two seem to have met first in Pune. A probe is on,” said GRP commissioner Prabhat Kumar.

The police said she may have been raped twice, once in the carshed in Pune and then in Mumbai, where her assailant convinced her that he was a local who knew the area well and managed to take her out along the railway tracks and to the empty compartment.

The police confirmed that the boy was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. They have taken the statement of the minor girl, which in case of rape is taken as evidence.
