Chennai, January 09: After a day of absconding, S Balaji, who allegedly murdered his mother at their house in K K Nagar here on Thursday night, was arrested by the police on Friday.
Although Balaji admitted to murdering his mother Lalitha (59), a retired government employee, he tried to justify it by saying he had done it at the behest of God.
The youth, who was said to be depressed because of alleged ill-treatment by his mother, had been dealing with the condition through spiritual means. He claimed that his mother had abused not just him, but also other family members, including his father Srinivasan, who is also a retired government employee.
Balaji told the police that he had lived in a hostel during his school days. As a college student, he expressed the desire to stay with his family, but his mother forced him to stay alone at their own house in K K Nagar. Meanwhile, he developed spiritual leanings.
“I discussed with Lord Shiva and narrated my family problems to him. It was based on the order from him that I murdered my mother,” he told the police. Balaji has been sent to a hospital for a medical checkup.
