Sending a letter to Congress president Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Secretary Pradesh Congress Committee Mr. Syed Yousuf Hashmi congratulated her on her birthday and demanded to make a Muslim leader the first chief minister of separate Telangana state.
Mr. Yousuf Hashmi termed the Congress loss in recent elections of four states as temporary and said the results will help the Congressmen to retrospect. He expressed hope that the Congress party will win the general elections with thumping majority by gaining public confidence. He declared the decision of formation of Telangana as historic.
He referred to the Indira Gandhi’s period and said that she had made Mr. Abdur Rahman Antulay the chief minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Anwer Taimur chief minister of Assam and Mr. Abdul Ghafoor the chief minister of Bihar. Mr. Hashmi claimed that no Muslim leader has been made chief minister since the foundation of Andhra Pradesh in 1956 hence he urged Sonia Gandhi to make a Muslim leader chief minister of Telangana after its formation.
