Youngster rams into truck, dies on the spot

Mumbai, December 20: A 24-year-old student and resident of Sunflower building, Carter Road, lost his life after the Honda City he was driving in the early hours of Saturday rammed into a stationary truck near the junction of Bellevue hospital on Link road in Andheri (W).

According to the Amboli police station, a case has been registered stating that Vaibhav Talwalkar, the deceased, was driving at a high speed which caused a major impact to his vehicle when it crashed in to the parked truck.

The deceased is the youngest son of Shekhar Talwalkar, a western zonal distributor of Kirloskar pumps. “Vaibhav was set to go abroad for higher studies,” said a friend. Vaibhav stayed with his father, mother and older brother at their Carter Road residence. “On Friday night, Vaibhav had gone out with his friends, and was returning home early on Saturday morning when the accident took place,” said police inspector Ashok Naik.

“The accident took place at around 4.30am when Talwalkar was on his way back from Oshiwara to Bandra. At the Bellevue junction, a taxi was taking a right turn from Linking road and came directly in the path of Talwalkar’s Honda City. Talwalkar’s vehicle scraped the taxi and in order to avoid colliding with the cab, Vaibhav took a sharp left, ramming into the stationary truck,” said police inspector Vijay Kadam of Amboli police station.

Talwalkar was taken to Cooper hospital but he was declared dead on admission. The driver of the taxi, Adam Siddiqui (46) has been arrested. “Doctors will be conducting a post-mortem to determine whether Talwalkar was driving under the influence of alcohol. However, a lookat the car, suggests that the Honda City was moving well above the speed limit. The taxi driver has claimed in his statement that the car was moving at approximately 120 kilometres per hour. Once the family is ready, we shall be taking their statements,” said Kadam.
