Young debaters at UN celebration

Hyderabad, November 02: The UN Council Celebrations organised by the UN Council of Andhra Pradesh was held in different schools in the twin cities.

This 15-day event included various competitions like UN Quiz, National Heritage festival of music, essay writing, painting, elocution, to mention a few. As a part of these celebrations, St. Andrews School hosted the UN Declamation, an inter-school elocution competition.

The contest was held to promote awareness among the students about the current world scenario and to encourage them to voice their opinions.

The main aim for all these events is to enhance peace, co-operation, understanding and oneness among human kind.

It was interesting to see the different ideas and opinions put forward by students of the eight schools participating in the event as they discussed the topic “What would be my contribution towards peace if I were the President of India?”.

As diversity is the core philosophy of both India and the United Nations Organization, the same was observed in the dreams and plans that every student had for the future of our country and the world.

The competition was held in three languages — English, Hindi and Telugu. The range of opinions expressed by those who will, perhaps, shape our future was impressive and quite refreshing.
