New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday donated Rs five crores from the Chief Minister Distress Relief Fund to Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the Cyclone Ockhi affected people in Lakshadweep and other states.
Adityanath handed over a cheque of the sum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in New Delhi.
On Monday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also sent Rs two crores from the Chief Minister Fund to the Prime Minister Fund for the victims, while Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh offered to send 100 metric tonnes of rice for the cyclone affected people in Lakshadweep.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also met the fishermen families affected by Cyclone Ockhi at Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram and assured them that the search and rescue operations are being conducted with full force.
She informed that, so far, 357 fishermen, including 71 from Tamil Nadu, who had been stranded in the sea due to Cyclone Ockhi, have been rescued.
On November 2, the Tamil Nadu authorities stated that the total number of deaths caused due to the cyclone has reached 19.
The deadly cyclone, which has claimed many lives, lashed the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Saturday with torrential rainfall and gusty winds.
