“Yoga teaches humans how to live; its aim is not just physical exercise. It also touches the mind and soul,” said PM Modi.
“Practicing yoga regularly is extremely important to learn different asanas. I met Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly today. He said that he would set up a world class yoga centre in this country and people will see what change yoga brings and that he will make this country the prayog bhumi of that,” he added.
Prime Minister Modi unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Ashgabat earlier today.
He also visited the mausoleum of the first president of Turkmenistan, Saparmur, at Niyazov.
Prime Minister Modi, who issued a joint statement with Turkmenistan today, proposed that Turkmenistan becomes a member of the International North South Transport Corridor.
The Prime Minister, who arrived here yesterday on the fourth leg of his Central Asian tour, was earlier in the day accorded a ceremonial welcome by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the Oguzkhan Palace in Ashgabat.
This is the first visit to Turkmenistan by an Indian Prime Minister after PV Narasimha Rao’s visit in 1995. (ANI)
