Yemen’s slain ex-president Saleh buried in Sanaa

Ankara: Former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh, who was shot dead by Houthi rebels last week, has been buried in the capital Sanaa, reported Turkey’s news agency Anadolu, citing, a senior official from Saleh’s party, as confirming.

Saleh has been buried without a customary funeral, tweeted General People’s Congress (GPC)’s assistant secretary-general Yasser al-Awadi.

According to the reports, Saleh’s corpse was first handed over to the Parliament Speaker, Yahya al-Raiee, amid limited attendance from Saleh’s supporters and Parliament members. Then, the corpse was buried.

A limited number of Saleh’s relatives attended the burial ceremony, stressing that Houthi rebels had refused to hold a customary funeral for the former president or announce the date of his burial.

Houthi fighters killed Saleh, after three days of deadly street clashes between Houthi movement and Saleh’s armed loyalists in Sanaa. (ANI)
