Yemeni forces clash with protesters

Sanaa, September 26: Heavy clashes were reported in several areas of the southern city of Taizz overnight, a Press TV correspondent reported on Monday.

The clashes began after Saleh came back from Saudi Arabia, where he was treated for injuries received during an attack on his palace three months ago.

More than 100 protesters have been killed in less than a week.

Anti-regime protesters reiterated once again that Saleh must be ousted and brought to justice for killing peaceful protesters.

“They have taken to the streets today to call for prosecution of Ali Abdullah Saleh, his son, and anyone associating themselves with the regime,” a protester told Press TV.

Meanwhile, Saleh has defied calls for him to step down, instead urging power transfer through elections. He also thanked the United States and Saudi Arabia for helping his regime stay in power.

Protesters say their revolution will come through the hands of the Yemeni people just like the Libyan revolution.

“It’s not a kingdom, it’s a republic country and it will remain because these victims and these people who are innocent they are the real plans for our future and we are going to sacrifice as much as possible,” one protester said,

The uprising in the Arab country began in late January protesting the long rule of Saleh.
