Yeddyurappa threatens protest if state govt. fails to clarify stand on loan-waiver

Bengaluru : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday threatened to protest if Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy failed to clarify state government’s stand on farm loan waiver.
“This government will have to clarify everything about loan waiver issue and the promises which they made in the budget,” Yeddyurappa said.

“If the government does not clarify things and fail to waive off farm loan completely, then we will start a protest from Monday,” he added.

On July 5, Kumaraswamy announced a partial loan waiver of Rupees 34,000 cr, which will benefit farmers whose loans are less than Rs 2 Lakh.

The Kumaraswamy-led JD(S) had resolved to waive farm loans borrowed both from cooperative and nationalised banks within 24 hours of formation of a full-fledged government of their party.

The state has decided against waiving off higher value crop loan.

Apart from this, to help the farmers who repaid the loan within time, the Chief Minister has decided to credit the repaid loan amount or Rs.25, 000 whichever is less to each of the farmer’s account. (ANI)
