Congress leader P.L. Punia on Sunday said the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will head in a new direction with the elevation of an ‘extremely capable’ Sitaram Yechury as the party’s general secretary.
“I feel the CPI (M) will head in a new direction. My best wishes are with him,” Punia said.
” Sitaram Yechury is a very capable, balanced and an affable person. We are both members of the Rajya Sabha and I get the chance to hear him daily,” he added.
Earlier today, senior CPI (M) leader Yechury was unanimously elected the party’s new general secretary.
Yechury, who is the fifth general secretary of the CPI (M), replaces Prakash Karat who stepped down after three terms. (ANI)
